A few weeks ago I was thrilled to be accepted by Kommatia Patterns as a pattern tester for this gorgeous simple jersey v-neck top. I thoroughly enjoyed the process, and can’t wait to share this with you today.
This pattern is a very comfy relaxed t-shirt, with a v-neck, breast pocket and turn up sleeves. It is available on PDF from Kommatia Patterns and I will link you to it here if you would like to take a look.
One of the good things about this pattern is that it only uses 1 metre of fabric! How great is that?
This is the first time that I have sewn a Kommatia Pattern. The instructions and pattern layouts are clear and easy to follow (and available in both English and French), and the actual pattern only uses 12 sheets of A4 paper so is easy on your printing supplies too!
The pattern markings are clear and thorough, and enables you to follow all stages of the make with no problems. It is fairly quick to make – I cut the fabric in the evening and the following day made this up in approx 3 hours. I made a straight Medium size and it fitted perfectly, no need for any alterations.
Something that I did come across when I was pattern testing was the fact that with the rolled up sleeves feature, you will see the ‘wrong side’ of the fabric. I had chosen a lovely jersey with a gorgeous print but of course it was plain on the wrong side, so this of course showed in the rolled up sleeve. You could choose to make this a feature of your make of course, or in the case of today’s pictures, choose a fabric which looks the same on the right and wrong side. Head over to my Instagram account if you would like to see my patterned version.
Your jersey has to have a slight stretch to it, and I picked up this pretty grey at the local market for £2! What a bargain!
Features on this top to take care with are the pocket, the sleeves and the neckline.
The pocket is perfectly placed in my opinion and just requires a little care with the stitching, but I like the challenge of a bit of topstitching.
The sleeves fit like a dream, and the turn ups are secured by using bar-tacks on your machine – such fun!
The neckline is slightly more tricky, but just requires you to take your time. Follow the instructions to a tee and you will be fine.
The hemline has a flattering curve, and I finished it using my ball point double needle. Oh yes, don’t forget that for this project you will be using ball point pins, needles and the stretch stitch on your machine.
Overall a really good staple for your wardrobe. I love this top a great deal more than I thought I would. I didn’t think I would love the v-neck as I think a low round neck suits me better, but I have seriously changed my mind with this little item!
Big thanks to Kommatia Patterns for such a great experience and for producing such an excellent pattern.
Do let me know if you have tried this pattern or if you plan to. Do you love sewing with jersey as much as I do?
Thanks for reading, take care and I’ll be back soon,
Kathy x
Really great, can tell it sits well, love the v.xx
Thank you for your lovely comment. It’s really comfortable, I love wearing jersey! Kx
I do love a pattern that only uses 1m
Hi Trisha, Ha! Definitely – especially when it is only £2 a metre from the local market!! X
It looks fab, really love that v neck binding.
Thank you Lynsey, it’s a little fiddly at the point of the v, but worth taking your time over, and it lays nice and flat all the way around the neck. Thank you for your lovely comment – have a great weekend x
Oooh ! That’s nice. I love the hem, you’ve got it lying nice and flat.
Thank you! Isn’t it lovely when it works out well like that! Kx
I got this pattern and cannot find any information about the seam allowance. Anyone know what it is?
Hi Caroline,
At the time that I made this pattern the seam allowance was 12mm or 1/2″. This was the pattern test version that I made. Whilst this was made 6 years ago I assume that the seam allowance is still the same with the current version. Hope this helps! Kathy x
